our history

The Springhaven Inn was originally a stagecoach inn, dating from about 1889. The inn served as a stop between Lenoir and Blowing Rock. Over the years the Springhaven Inn has also been a boarding house, a restaurant, shop, bed and breakfast, and a private residence. Through all the changes and renovations Springhaven has kept its original 1889 structure that is now used as the main dining area.

During the summers in the 1930’s, Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone with the Wind, would spend time here at Springhaven. Our place on the edge of town has always made the perfect location for those who want to walk to the nearby shops and restaurants.  Our antique collection is the charm of our Inn and our rocking chair porch is the perfect place to read a great book and chat with new friends.
